APEX
Shells, roofs and pipelines
Corrosion does not spread evenly. A grid of spot readings touches a tiny fraction of the plate, and a line scan adds one continuous track. Both can pass straight by a corrosion streak on the inside or corrosion under insulation eating from the outside.
So we raster scan. The APEX crawler sweeps tank shells, pressure vessels, roofs and pipelines in lanes 300 to 600 mm wide, reading wall thickness continuously and returning a color coded map of the entire scanned surface. A shell is typically mapped in less than a working day, and a roof even less.
Roofs earn the raster for their own reasons. General corrosion gets a truer average from more data points, and crevice corrosion, easy to step over with spot checks, cannot hide from full coverage.
Our intuitive in-house reporting software makes the resulting picture clear for further analysis.
